installing Simply Lighting?
A:
There are three options associated with the installation of
Simply Lighting and its databases:

Q: Why do I
get the message "Network
driver appears to not be servicing this directory"?
A: This error occurs on NT 4.0 operating
systems, and is a result of the system not recognizing the
location of the program executable. This can be resolved by
following the instructions outlined below:
- The
user must have Administrative rights to authorize the
CrypKey licensing software.
- When
the program is finished installing, the Administrator
must execute the program "setup_ck.exe",
which can be found in the Winnt directory. This program
will
insert the CrypKey licensing manager into the system.
- To
verify the CrypKey licensing manager is running, from
the Start menu select Settings, Control Panel, Services.
Verify that "CrypKey License" is listed as a Service,
and that it's Status is Started and Startup is Automatic.
- Run
the program "ckconfig.exe", which can be
found in the Winnt directory.
- Verify
the path to the Simply Menu program is correct (ie:
C:\LTI\SIMPLY\MENU\MENU.EXE). If the program is not
listed, add it by clicking the Add button and selecting
the MENU.EXE file in the file dialog box. You may need
to type "Menu.exe" in the "File name" text
box. If the program listed is incorrect, or if there
are multiple paths, delete them and add the proper
path.
Simply 1.0 users please note that your path to the Simply
Menu will be \Lti\Simply\Simply.exe
Q: After
installing Thomas and Betts' Navigator, when I try to
run Simply Lighting 2000, I get

A:
If Thomas and Betts' Navigator is installed after the LTI
2000 CD installation, this error will occur. A reinstallation
of Simply Lighting from the LTI 2000 CD is necessary.

Q: Is
it possible to change the layout of a design after
specifying a specific criteria?
A: Yes. This can be done in the Layout screen
(Step 3). In the section Layout Specifications there is the
option to change the column and row spacing of the luminaire
array.
Q:
Is it possible to layout a
design using more than one (1) luminaire?
A: Yes. This can be done in the Pick Luminaire
screen (Step 2). On this screen is the option to specify more
than one layout. For each layout, one luminaire may be added
to the design. After choosing the appropriate luminaires,
the Layout screen (Step 3) allows the user to specify the
layout for each luminaire. When performing the calculations
(Calculate, Step 4) there is the option to Combine Layouts.
An additional layout will be created, combining the original
layouts.
Q:
How do I add objects, such
as tables and chairs, to a layout?
A: Simply Indoor does not have the capability
to add objects to the designs. Simply Indoor is designed to
perform quick point-by-point calculations for simple room
layouts. For more complex design scenarios we recommend using
Lumen Micro.
Simply
Outdoor Return to
top
Q: Can
I modify the layout that Simply Outdoor produces using
the automatic layout functionality?
A:
Yes. Go to the 5th step in the upper left hand
menu called "Modify Layout". Using the toolbar
on top, you may add new poles with or without orientation,
add
new arrays of poles, delete poles, and move poles as well.
Q: Why
did the automatic layout utility not find a good layout
for my given pole configuration, minimum
footcandle level, and average footcandle level?
A:
The automatic layout utility uses simple layouts to try and
find an optimum design. This design is a meant to be a good
starting point, but you will have to modify this design to
fit your exact needs. The fixture/pole configuration you are
using may not be right for the results desired. For example
a 1000W fixture mounted on a 30 foot pole will not work well
for a design that needs a 1.0 fc minimum level, but only a
3.0 fc average level.
Q: How
can I export a DXF file from Simply Outdoor?
A: Go
to "Save As" and then in the file name text box
you must type in filename.dxf (or whatever your desired filename
is). Then click on "Save" and blaze through one
error per pole.
Q:
How do I add objects, such
as buildings, to a layout?
A: Simply Outdoor does not have the capability
to add objects to the designs. Simply Outdoor is designed
to perform quick point-by-point calculations for simple layouts.
For more complex design scenarios we recommend using Lumen
Micro.
Q: How
do I change the orientation of a pole?
A: Click
on the pole to select it. Then perform a right click on
the mouse to get a quick menu. Choose "Aim Graphically" and
left click in the direction you want to aim.

top
Q: Where can I get
more information concerning the RP-8 criteria?
A: Information concerning RP-8 criteria can
be found on the Set Optimizations screen (Step 3). On this
screen is a button for 'Explain Roadway Lighting Criteria'.
A small window will appear that allows the user to choose
a specific criteria to read about. The official IESNA RP-8
Roadway Lighting publication is available at iesna.org.
Q:
How do I change the configuration
of my luminaire layout? I would like to place the luminaires
down the center of the median.
A: The luminaire layout can be changed from
the Calculate screen (Step 4). On this screen is the option
to change the Roadway Configuration. Clicking the icon will
active the Roadway Configurations menu, allowing the user
to choose a specific pole configuration.
Q:
How do I add objects, such
as buildings, to a layout?
A: Simply Roadway does not have the capability
to add objects to the designs. Simply Roadway is designed
to perform quick point-by-point calculations for simple roadway
layouts. For more complex design scenarios we recommend using
Lumen Micro.
Q:
How do I prepare layouts for
parking lot lighting?
A: Simply Roadway is intended for roadway
lighting design only. For basic outdoor lighting, we recommend
using Simply Outdoor. For more complex design scenarios, we
recommend using Lumen Micro.
